ART®  (Active Release Techniques)

What is ART® ?

ART®  is soft tissue management developed by P. Michael Leahy, D.C., CCSP to restore motion, function, and texture of the soft tissues. The term soft tissue encompasses muscles, tendons, fascia, and nerves. This is done by using specific protocols to remove adhesions or fibrosis within the soft tissue.

What conditions can be treated with ART® ?

Carpal tunnel and other peripheral nerve entrapments

    Spinal pain and dysfunction

Tendinitis and other soft tissue inflammatory disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder,
    hip, knee, ankle, and foot

Sciatica, TMJ, recurrent sprains and strains

What is an ART®  treatment like?

Every ART®  session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART® . They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART®  is not a cookie-cutter approach. With ART® , the client is clothed in generally in move-able clothing such as shorts and sports bras for women if the upper body is being worked on.
